CHARACTER
Name: Shiroe
True Name: Shirogane Kei
Canon: Log Horizon, between seasons 1 and 2
Age: 23
History: https://log-horizon.fandom.com/wiki/Shiroe (Note: canon point is after the Libra Festival arc on the wiki)
Powers/Abilities: Big picture ideas: Enchanter class skills and abilities, Scribe subclass skills and abilities, real world knowledge.
Enchanter class skills: Unlike some isekai protagonists we could speak of, Shiroe is not a fighter; he’s a support caster. His spells primarily fall into two categories, debuffing enemies and supporting his allies. He can, for example, increase the attack power of allies or distribute mana between those in his party. Or he can cast spells that impede enemy movement, mark them with small balls of static energy that make it impossible for them to attempt stealth. He does have some attack spells, primarily ones that deal psychic damage, but he’s not going to be capable of holding off a large enemy force by himself. He also has the ability to summon a magical light orb, which is kind of adorable as it has a sort of dopey face on it. Discussion of the class and it’s abilities is written up more in-depth here: Enchanter on the LH wiki
Scribe Subclass skills: Per the LH wiki, “The Scribe subclass is one of the production subclasses in Elder Tale. It allows one to create or duplicate scrolls, maps, books, documents, technical manuals, magical instruction manuals, and contracts using paper and ink. They can also created [sic] said paper and ink, their quality depending on the player's level and the material used.”
However, Shiroe as a specific personal Overskill learns how to create magically binding contracts once he’s within the game reality. In canon he uses if to warp reality, making it so a “Person of the Land” (read: NPC) can cheat death and literally become a player character instead of dissolving into code by signing a contract agreeing to join Shiroe’s guild.
Real world knowledge: Shiroe is from Earth and understands how things like real-world politics and economics work. While his area of expertise is engineering (it was what he was studying before he was sucked into Elder Tale), he has an approximate knowledge of many things. As one of the other members of the Debauchery Tea Party says, the first time he met Shiroe in person started with a thirty-minute lecture on the difference between black and oolong tea, which then moved on to Taiwanese politics, the EU, and the economy of tea. This comes up in-game, with his foresight about the economy and how keeping up payment on the guildhall will be trouble for the city of Akihabara over time.
Inventory:
- Sacred Robe of the Stars, Staff of the Wise Horned Owl: The basic equipment Shiroe has as an enchanter. They up his attack power and offer protection.
- Glasses: can be made to gleam menacingly when he pushes them up his nose in a certain way.
- Dazaneg’s Magic Bag: The equivalent of a bag of holding in D&D. This will allow Shiroe to store items he brought with him.
- Magic bag has a couple basic quills, an ink bottle, some maps of the Elder Tale universe, and a couple minor trinket things. His griffin-summoning whistle, for instance, which doesn’t work in this world.
Job History:
Engineering Graduate Student: Nerdy engineering student. Still had enough time to be a serious raid player in Elder Tale, and a member of the legendary Debauchery Tea Party
Villain in Glasses: Mastermind of such works as the Crescent Moon Burger, the Round Table Alliance and the Round Table Alliance Expeditionary Force
Guild Leader: Founder and leader of the guild Log Horizon, a strategy and combat support guild which also trains lower-level Adventurers
Suppressions:
1. Shiroe thinks he's bad with people. He's actually very good at understanding how a person can be useful, such as when he uses an oblivious Soujiro and his fawning harem of guildmates to work security at the Libra Festival. However, Shiroe lacks confidence in his leadership skills, is a strong introvert and he very much doesn't safeguard his own reputation when pulling off his clever plans, allowing himself to be painted as the Villain in Glasses, seen as ruthless and manipulative. It's poor management of the resource that is his reputation.
2. Shiroe doesn’t trust everyone to keep up with him. While those who know him from the Debauchery Tea Party, like Naotsugu and Nyanta, are likely to understand his plans and get some of the insight into why he acts the way he does or asks for certain favors, others just sort of get orders and not the full details. He has Henrietta and Marielle aid him in tricking the merchant guilds into funding the guild hall purchase, instead of approaching their leaders directly and asking for what he needs. In season two of the anime, he actually has the realization that this is a problem during a raid, and decides he needs to trust those around him more. That lightbulb moment is something I’d like to work toward ICly in-game, and is the entire reason for the canon point I chose; I wanted to set him earlier than it.
3. Shiroe seeks escapism and magic. There’s a scene in the second season where we get some background on Shiroe being depressed as a child. When he was left alone at night, he’d sneak out to a park near his house, sitting on the bench alone. We’re told that Elder Tale was so important to him because it let him step outside a dull existence as a lonesome shut-in student and experience a different world, full of wonders and challenges. However, even the game wore down on him after he created a popular class guide and people started looking to him for The Answers to everything in the game. He rediscovered his love of the game with the Debauchery Tea Party, sharing in his leader Kanami’s enthusiasm for the world and her desire to be the first to take on any new raids the game had.
Greatest Fear: Being sent back to Earth and being told his adventures were never real and didn't matter.
Greatest Desire: To be able to find the wonder of a new world, exploring the unbounded horizon with his friends.
Greatest Regret: The things he has kept secret from his allies, both within his guild and in the greater Round Table Alliance.

OUT OF CHARACTER
BACKTAGGING: Within reason. I can lose interest if there's too long between tags, especially in memes or games. If you're going to be away for two weeks or more, let's handwave an ending to a thread if it's in-game.
THREADHOPPING: Please ask.
FOURTHWALLING: I'd rather not.
NOT INTERESTED IN: Nothing's completely off the table.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS
VISUAL: Not quite six feet tall and skinny, Shiroe is wrapped in a large white cloak. over a grey turtleneck and pants in two different shades of green. He has a magic bag at his hip; it's a little boxy and plain, and often has a map or scroll secured to the top of it. He always wears glasses and usually carries a wooden staff longer than he is tall.
AURAL: He doesn't speak very loudly unless he needs to, his voice slightly raspy. His tone is often polite and occasionally self-mocking.
OLFACTORY: Old books, and a lingering ozone scent associated with his enchantment magic.
DEMEANOUR: Shiroe's someone who can modulate his demeanor to achieve the effect he wants, but it's often a cover-up for some mild insecurity. He can seem manipulative or like he's scheming without meaning to, but his default mode is polite and articulate.
